Episode 41: Kirk Cameron’s America

0

So I am back from my vacation to the colder climes and this week we jump back into the foray of Christian Nationalist craziness. This month Kirk Cameron, our lovable former teen star gone Christian evangelist and crocoduck expert, releases his new “documentary” Monumental: In Search of America’s National Treasure. Spoiler alert: the treasure has to do with conflating the Mayflower Pilgrims and the Founding Fathers. Like many Christian Nationalists out there our buddy Kirk is having a take at trying to push these two groups, who in reality are separated by over 250 years, together. [singlepic id=1727 w=320 h=240 float=right]

This conversation eventually takes us from Ray Comfort’s sidekick to Mike Huckabee and Newt Gingrich’s favourite faux historian, David Barton. For more information about the crazy twists and turns that our hour long conversation takes you will have to listen for yourself.

Regarding the works/non-works issue, I should’ve delved into the issue of Christianity’s inherrent Jewish character and how the idea of works played into Paul’s understanding of what it meant to be a part of the people of God, that conflict within early Christianity, and all of the related issues. Oops. Hindsight’s 20/20…should’ve had hindsight.
