To start off the hour, we delve into a new PEW Research Center study showing that Millennials (people born after 1981) are not only more likely to doubt the existence of God, but that the number who do doubt has doubled in the last 5 years, from 15% to 31%. This is no doubt brought about by the increase in information created by the internet, similar to the effects of the printing press.
It’s been an interesting week. A friend came to visit me from Toronto and we decided to head down to the Church of Scientology on Hollywood Blvd–just a few blocks from my house. The Center is open to the public and contains a number of video interfaces for visitors to learn about the religion. There are also a huge number of free DVDs to take, of which I took all I could–I can’t resist free materials about different religions. The videos my friend and I watched discussed how L. Ron Hubbard was actually an Indiana Jones-esque character, i.e. more amazing than anyone you have ever met (he wasn’t), as well as various videos about Dianetics, their drug education programs, and their volunteer ministry actions, but nothing about UFOs for some reason. Check out the episode to hear Jason, Bob and I discuss my experience.
