[tab title="The Forest"]
The Forest opens this Friday, January 8, 2016. The film is set the legendary Aokigahara Forest of Japan, which is also known as the Suicide Forest, due to the high number of, well, suicides – it is the most ‘popular’ destination in Japan for suicide.
Anyway, the film, THE FOREST follows Sara (Natalie Dormer of “Game of Thrones” and “The Hunger Games”), a young American woman in search of her twin sister, who has mysteriously disappeared. Here is the synopsis: Rising with terrifying grandeur at the base of Mt. Fuji in Japan, the legendary real-life Aokigahara Forest is the suspense-filled setting of the supernatural thriller. A young American woman, Sara (Natalie Dormer of “Game of Thrones” and “The Hunger Games”), journeys there in search of her twin sister, who has mysteriously disappeared. In the company of expatriate Aiden (Taylor Kinney of “Chicago Fire”), Sara enters the forest having been well warned to “stay on the path.” Determined to discover the truth about her sister’s fate, Sara will have to face the angry and tormented souls of the dead that prey on anyone who dares come near them. These malevolent spirits lying in wait for Sara at every turn will plunge her into a frightening darkness from which she must fight to save herself.
In addition to looking like an awesome film, which Zombie Popcorn will go see on opening weekend, their promotion around this film was some of the best I have seen. Yesterday, I received this email:
Subject Line: We’ve found something of yours in THE FOREST
Body of email:
We’ve sent you something – a relic of the past, a portal into a world of anger and lost souls, a warning of things to come…When you receive it today, explore it at your own peril. But if you choose to peer into the abyss – if you start the journey – stay on the path. There are surprises waiting for those who don’t look away.
Looking forward to hearing back from you – more to come…
I received this email on my phone while I was out and about. I thought to myself, “Wow, that is a strange email”, then didn’t think much of it afterwards. I came home and found a white box sitting in front of my door, so thinking back to the email I received earlier in the day, I began opening the box as I walked through the door. The first thing I see is a note that reads, ‘The Forest’ Watch out! Sometimes, even if you don’t want to, the Forest has a way of sucking you in. The spirits are restless and It will get you… Somehow… #TheForestIsReal.
I removed the card to find a read viewmaster 3d with a viewmaster slide already in the viewfinder, so I did the most obvious thing, I put the viewfinder to my face and began clicking through the slides. The slides seem to show some very creepy images of what looks like spirits and bodies in the forest, then some how – THE Forest sucked me in and on the last slide I found myself in the slide… here is what I saw
