Coalesce Episode 1: Ignoring Suffering

Coalesce Episode 1: Ignoring Suffering

Welcome to Coalesce and new show on Zombie Popcorn.

Coalesce, which means ‘to unite so as to form one mass, community, etc.,’ is a show that brings two unlikely groups together, an anarchist atheist and an evangelical Christian.  The goal is to work on uniting on issues they have in common, in hopes to overcome some of the worlds biggest issues – Human trafficking.

They will challenge each other and their world view, to find a solution that everyone can work with to help free the 2.5 million people who are in forced labor, the sex-slave industry (including sexual exploitation), and all the other levels of human trafficking.

This week, we discussed the purpose of the show. Our goal is to unite people from different backgrounds to engage in causes that alleviate human suffering.

Jason, an anarchist atheist, talked about his motivations for helping those who are suffering (Because it’s the right thing to do!), and Matt, a charismatic Christian, gave his reasons for being motivated to help end human suffering (Because that’s what God wants…AND it’s the right thing to do).

Matt explained evangelicalism’s historical background of social responsibility and the reasons for its withdrawal from issues of social justice. We also talked about modern evangelical initiatives like the 58 project to end extreme poverty in a generation.

As our action step, Jason discussed the CASE Act (Californians Against Sexual Exploitation) on the ballot in California.  There is a petition for you to sign here and here is the link to the video Jason spoke about.

We hope you enjoy the new show and please let us know what you think!

Ironically, he and I sat for hours continuing to talk even AFTER the show 🙂

Jason, I love, love, love the concept for this new show. It reminds me of back in the day when I used to be a Christian, and you and I would talk for hours about how we could still work together to solve the world’s issues. I look forward to more episodes!
