Zombie Popcorn Radio started back in September 2009 and it was just Josh and me. Since that time we have grown and now Paul has become apart of the show and has contributed his music by creating the Zombie Popcorn Radio intro.
We have met some wonderful people during the time of doing the show and a couple of the listeners have become staples of the show. If you have ever listened to an episode or watched it in 3D, then you know 3DmovieMan and Jen. – If not, what are you waiting for?
We have also interviewed some amazing people on Zombie Popcorn Radio, including a long time 3D idol of mine, Mr. Tony Anthony. Check out the list of people we interviewed in such a short time that we have been live on the ‘air’.
So it was time to make a bigger home for Zombie Popcorn Radio because we have no plans of stopping. Check out the new look of Zombie Popcorn Radio and let me know what you think and don’t forget to tune in every Saturday Night at 7-9pm Eastern.
PS – I am still working on the site and updating all of the episodes so the most current ones are currently not up – but this gives you a chance to listen to some of the very first episodes. So enjoy
No, I am not talking about what happens when you shoot a zombie in the head – I am talking about pop music.
Yesterday, Paul posted on Zombie Popcorn the video to a song he wrote that pays tribute to horror monsters, but Paul is not the only one paying tribute to the horror genre.
Let me introduce Natalia Kills.
Natalia Kills is a zombie-obsessed pop artist who has written her entire debut album as well as written and produced her debut video entitled, “Zombie.”
Rumors have said that when she sings the line, ‘I am in love with a Zombie’ she really means ‘I am in love with Zombie Popcorn’ – but no conformation on that…
What makes Natalia Kills stand out above the other pop artists is not just her love for zombies (but that does give her points). It is that she also creates a weekly episodic film noir web series that she directed and stars in called, “Love, Kills xx.” This series shows that a pop star can really be twisted, dark, sexy, tough and borderline perverse. I am looking forward to see where she takes us with this series.
“Love, Kills xx,” is a companion visual piece to her album, weaving motifs from her lyrics and songs throughout. The series explores the deepest and darkest impulses of Natalia Kills’ imagination. New episodes are released each week and there are currently three episodes up now.
Natalia Kills debut album ‘Perfectionist’ is due out late 2010 so keep your eyes on Zombie Popcorn and we will update you once the street date is set.
So now you know what happens when a Zombie goes pop…
If there’s anything I’ve learned in my years it’s, that religion is mostly a lie . . . .
Oh, don’t get all huffy - puffy over that, cause science is mostly a lie too. . .
You know what’s not a lie?
Monsters.
Everything you heard as a kid is true. . .
They wait under your bed . . .
ready to taste your sleepy head.
They’ll pull you down when your alone . . .
to lick your flesh and break your bones . . . .
And we have the footage to prove it. . . .
Take a look . . .
I dare you. . . . .
(more after the break)
This is a track that Jason and I worked on quite a while ago.
Actually, it’s our first project, from over a year ago . . . it’s our third video. . . but first video ever completed. . . wait . . . what?
Anyway, we love horror movies, monsters and industrial music. . . we hope you do too.
Let us know what you think of the song. . . . just send a quick e-mail or post in the comments section. . . if enough people like it we’ll make more.
Zombie Popcorn is very honored to have a special guest writer. Matthew from the Matthew Show. You may remember Matthew from when we interviewed him back in January. He has an amazing new project…well, I will stop talking and let him get on with what he has to say. Please welcome Matthew!
Spurred by books like Malcolm Gladwell’s “Outliers” and Nassim Nicholas Taleb’s “Fooled By Randomness,” our society has been having a discussion of our expectations about life and how they are shaped by what we see. There is a selection bias, particularly in the arts, where we are only exposed to the stories of the wildly successful.
Where are the tales of failure?
My new podcast, “The Band That Never Was,” is an attempt to even out the sample set. It is the story of a group of friends who travel from adolescence to adulthood together. On the way, they form a band, and hijinks ensue.
Packed with honesty, laughs, relationships, irony, and some damned fine tunes, “The Band That Never Was” is about many things. Friendships, life, music, growing up, and a study of what, at its core, failure may or may not be.
And let’s not forget the music. Every episode features original music by the matthew show and my various musical associates, and the tunes are also available as singles at thematthewshow.com independently of the podcast.
I’m extremely excited about this project, and I believe you will be, too. Check it out:
On Sat. March 6th, we will have a special guest/ co-host on Zombie Popcorn Radio. If you know me personally or watched the documentary ‘Wake Up Screaming’ then you know who our guest is – Mr. Dave Aguilera. (More after the break)
Dave was in the band Bleed the Dream when we met back in 2004 on the Taste of Chaos tour and became good friends. That same year Dave, created his own label, Maphia Records and in recent years started managing other bands, such as Eyes Set to Kill. He has a long history in the music industry and we shared several cross country tours together — but we will go into more details about that on Zombie Popcorn Radio this Sat. In the meantime, check out this video from Eyes Set to Kill produced by Dave Aguilera.
- Stick around after the video I haven’t told you who we are going to interview yet — you will be surprised.
It is not all going to be about music on the show this Saturday. We are going to play the interview I did with Westboro Baptist Church spokesperson, Shirley Phelps Roper. If the name of the ‘church’ or Shirley doesn’t ring a bell – then read this blurb to help your memory
Shirley Lynn Phelps-Roper is the eldest daughter of Fred Phelps, minister of the Westboro Baptist Church, an independent church in the United States often characterized as a hate group . She and the church have received widespread media coverage on news outlets such as the BBC and Fox News for the group’s aggressive preaching and controversial campaigns such as the picketing the funerals of AIDS victims with signs such as “GOD HATES FAGS” and funeral processions for American soldiers killed in combat
- Yes, those people. They were in town so I grabbed my microphone and got an interview. I also grabbed an interview from one of the organizers of the counter protests -which was amazing. – To see photos from their protest and the counter protest check them out here.
So tune in to Zombie Popcorn this Sat. March 6th, 2010 at 7-9pm (EST) to hear crazy stories about living life on the road and hear interviews from crazy people – it is bound to be a HOOT!

Sometimes when you have good friends and a radio show you just have to talk about music. So join us in this weeks re-broadcast while we interview Matthew from The Matthew Show.
Matthew plays live music for us and we learn more about his history in music.
Born and raised in rural Texas, matthew spent 10 years navigating the murky waters of the North Texas music scene in a variety of rock bands. He moved to New York in 2002 to begin a solo career as the matthew show, eventually moving operations back to the Dallas/Fort Worth area in 2006 due to hipster fatigue.
In 2003 his debut solo album, texas, was released to wide critical acclaim. His songs have been featured on two seasons of the PBS series Roadtrip Nation, and on National Public Radio’s All Songs Considered.
In 2005, his cover of Warren Zevon’s Mohammed’s Radio was included on the bestselling tribute album Hurry Home Early, and his song Bring Me Safely Down won second place in American Songwriter magazine’s Lyric Competition.
In 2006, his song Office Suite, Part I was used as the soundtrack to lonelygirl15′s YouTube video The Tolstoy Principle, which has since gained nearly half a million views due to coverage in Wired and the New York Times.
He has performed live with acts as diverse as Hamell On Trial and Goodwin, and headlined 2004′s JournalCon in Washington DC. He has worked with artists such as Cubano-classical favorites Las Rubias del Norte, NYC celebrity street musician Dorian Spencer, renowned violinist Reggie Rueffer, and avant-garde composer Little Jack Melody.
matthew performs regularly as Matthew Perreault in the virtual world Second Life, where his live concerts draw fans from around the real world and throughout the metaverse.
matthew’s non-musical activities have included writing and editing children’s nonfiction books, being one of Fandango.com’s first movie reviewers, providing commentaries on Dallas’ KERA FM, and performing as an extra on the late, lamented Walker, Texas Ranger.
matthew’s second album, february, was released in October 2008 by Wampus Multimedia:

This is my list of films, albums, and other things I felt like making a note about this year and decade. I will only be talking in depth about some of my top choices on my list because if I talked about all of them this would be a very long post. So, let the countdown begin!
Favorite Films of 2009
1. Inglourious Basterds – I am a major Tarantino fan, and if you listen to the radio show you know that. I have to say this is his best work since Pulp Fiction. I am not Jewish and don’t know a ton about the Holocaust, but this film made me want to stand up and cheer at the end. It is Tarnatino at his best. I CAN see why people wouldn’t like the film, it is very dialogue driven, (which is no surprise to a Tarantino fan) and it is mostly in subtitles, so you are reading through most of the movie. But I personally don’t think that took away from the picture. Most definitely my favorite film of 2009.
2. Friday The 13th – I am a big hater of remakes, especially when there was nothing wrong with the original. But in this case I thought is was remade very well. Friday is my favorite slasher series and I have always had a profound love for Jason Voorhees, so when I heard they were revamping it I was heartbroken, but went to the theater anyway and walked away very satisfied! They kept everything that was important in the original and gave you some new stuff as well. Alot of people hate on Micheal Bay movies but I have to say that this remake put Rob Zombie’s Halloween to shame.
3. Star Trek – I am not a Star Trek fan, and never have been. But, J.J. Abrams – the man behind some of my favorite T.V. shows (Lost, Alias) – took Star Trek and totally reinvented the series. The story in this film takes everything you know about Star Trek and gives it a whole new beginning, so you don’t have to know anything about the original to enjoy this film. I thought that in itself was amazing!
4. District 9 – Didn’t know anything about it, went and saw it and loved it! Enough said!
5. Zombieland – I love Woody Harrelson.
6. Trick R Treat – Most under rated horror film of the decade…in my opinion.
7. (500) Days of Summer – I love Zooey Dechanel.
8. Religulous – The funniest documentary I have ever seen!
9. Terminator Salvation – Alot of people hated it! I loved it!
10. Away We Go – Got mixed reviews but I thought it was funny as hell, and in a world where Will Ferrell movies are getting stupider by the minute, this comedy is serious at heart, but still didn’t stop me from laughing my ass off. The opening scene alone is worth renting the DVD!
Worst Filmsof 2009 (I can’t even talk about these film they are all just too terrible! AND I WILL NEVER GET THOSE HOURS OF MY LIFE BACK!!!)
1. Max Payne
2. The House Bunny (while this film actually came out in 2008 it was the first movie I saw in 2009. Not a good way to start the year!)
3. The Unborn
4. The Uninvited
5. Knowing
Top 5 Albums of 2009 1. The Decemberists – The Hazards of Love – It took me a while to get into this album, and it even took me seeing them perform it live to really appreciate what they accomplished with this record. Not only a musical masterpiece but a literary masterpiece as well. Once you get engulfed in the concept of the record you are hooked. While a lot of people and critics are not liking this album, I feel they are just missing the point. I myself, like records that you can put on and listen to from start to finish and this is a great album for that very reason, you cannot turn it on and not finish it.
2. Converge - Axe to Fall – the only record this year that I turned on, listened to the first song and said to myself “Fuck! This is gonna be a bad ass record!” and it delivered! Converge never fails to impress me.
3. Iron and Wine – Around The Well – I love Sam Beam! He writes some of the most poetic and sad songs I have ever heard, and that makes me happy!
4. A.F.I. – Crash Love – I love the fact that A.F.I. have embraced becoming a POP band and still kick ass and take names.
5. The Avett Brothers – I and Love and You - Call it folk, bluegrass, country, rock, soul, whatever. I call it great music.
Artist I thought I would never be listening to in 2009
Lady GaGa. – I have to say I am so intrigued by her that it is not even funny. I think she is hilarious, talented, shocking and hot. If she is a hermaphrodite I don’t care!
Favorite Films of the Decade (I am only going to speak about the first 2, the others are in no particular order!) 1. Almost Famous – Quite possibly my favorite movie of all time. I love music and I love movies about music and or bands. So many great quotes, ” I am a golden God!” , ” Rock Stars have kidnapped my son!” , “Don’t take drugs!” This film really hits the soft spot of my heart and this scene alone is one of the reasons why. It brings a tear to my eye every time she says “You are home.”
2. Across the Universe – If it were not for this movie I would have never become a Beatles fan, and I am sooo glad I did. I thought this film really captured the era and what the Beatles’ music meant to people. A musical, yes. A girlie movie, no. Quite possibly my second favorite movie of all time!
3. Inglourious Basterds
4. Kill Bill vol. 1&2
5. Grindhouse Planet Terror & Death Proof
6. Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind
7. The Dark Knight
8. Lost in Translation
9. Friday the 13th
10.Into the Wild
11.Wall-E
12.There Will Be Blood
13.No Country For Old Men
14.Factory Girl
15.Dodgeball
16.Cloverfield
17.In Bruges
18.Walk The Line
19.Zoolander
20.Tropic Thunder
And last but not least………I was very sad to hear that Michael Jackson passed away this past year. Even with all the crazy things that have happened to him as of late, and him earning the name Wacko Jacko, it is completely undeniable that he was a major part of my life and provided the soundtrack to a lot of memories that I cherish, and helped shape a generation. He truly was the King of Pop and he will be missed.
As will the talented Patrick Swayze! Point Break is one of the best films EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! R.I.P. guys.
If you been listening to Zombie Popcorn Radio you might have guessed that I like industrial music and if you know me personally the you know that I have an activist side to me. So it is no surprise that I am very supportive of these two worlds when they come together to help others.

ohGr creates some of the most amazing projects. Side note: ohGr is a band formed by Nivek Ogre, of Skinny Puppy, and musician/engineer Mark Walk.
The latest, which was released on 10.10 is Welcome To Collidoskope, but before I go into to details – let me bring you up to speed.
A Morse Code signal was discovered on the http://devilsinmydetails.com. When decoded it read “This Web Site Has Been ComPromised. We Are Currently Searching For A Secure Location To DIsTRIButE New Information. Once This New Location Is Secure, You Will Be Given The Necessary COOrDInATES” Deciphering the capital letters in the statement produced a number 1921201814. Images were posted and removed along with other sound bytes and a program was introduced of an Oliver typewriter. Mark Walk posted anagrams in messages on the ohGr forums such as Woof Hut Video Hack and Ouch Wife Hot Vodka. These anagrams revealed whodoihavetofuck. When typed into the Oliver typewriter, “you’ve cracked the code”. Click and thehttp://www.whodoihavetofuck.com website opened. When the number 1921201814 was input, the message “MORE TO FALLOW 10.10.09″ opened.
At http://www.whodoihavetofuck.com, another puzzle appeared before 10.10.09. It revealed another number set which was ten digits. Dialing this number on your telephone reached a voice mail box with instructions to leave a message saying “Welcome to Collidoskope”. The voice mail message was removed shortly after and replaced with “The bidding has ended for this item”. The webpage was recoded with one text line an stated “The game plays itself in every devision of life” as a sound played through an embedded hidden video.
When 10.10.09 arrived, a new website is discovered, http://www.wdihtf.com, The other sites changed and the new site included an introduction movie with sounds moving backward and forward. The forward message was “Mr. and Mrs. Jones walked up to the house now misowned” and backwards it said “Mr. Brown, what’s goin on? Answer, Where is the answer? People work and everday they come to home to see their houses torn apart. Wake Up. Tick. Tick.” A new Oliver Typewriter program was implimented as well. During the loading screen, a message blinked “Entering Room”,”Define a great Life?”,”A solopsist might say pain is needed to appreciate pleasure.”,”Can I prove to you that I exist?”. After the load completed “Welcome to Collidoskope” appears. This time, there were more pieces to the puzzle. The most crucial was clicking the security keypad and submitting your email address. This would send your email a link to the new ohGr song “Welcome to Collidoskope”.
So what is next in this puzzle of sound and mystery?
Can you crack the code?
There is only one way to find out – play ohGr’s game….

In the early 2000′s I was introduced to Dog Fashion Disco, a band not like any other I had ever heard. The first time I listened to one of their songs I distinctly remember thinking they would fit right in as the house band in hell! That is if hell were a 24/7 circus. Their music is a blend of metal, prog rock, jazz, circus, and elevator music. The lyrical content is just as entertaining as the music with themes pertaining to murder (“Headless” from 2001′s Anarchists of Good Taste), serial killers (“Pogo the Clown” from 2003′s Committed to a Bright Future), pornography and satanic cowboys (“Pervert” and “The Satanic Cowboy” from 2000′s The Embryo’s In Bloom), and bad acid trips (“The Acid Memoirs” also from 2003′s Committed…).
I was lucky enough to see Dog Fashion Disco live not once, but twice! And both experiences were very odd circumstances. The first time I saw them was at a club in Pensacola, Florida. They were still an unsigned band doing a tour on there own and my friend Rachel and I had heard their demo and loved it. So we got in the car and drove 2 hours away to see them. When we arrived at the club it wasn’t open. It seemed as though there wasn’t even a show that night. We walked around the back of the club to find the band in their van. They said they had been their all day and no one had come to let them in to set up or sound check. We sat and talked with them for a while until someone finally came and opened the club. By that time we were on a first name basis with the band, and they were so surprised that we came to see them that they put us on their guest list for the night. After getting inside and setting up, they came over and asked us if we wanted to hear any particular songs that night, so we pretty much picked the set list for the show. In the end, the only people that came to the show were us, and about 5 others. Even with such a bad turnout they performed like they were in front of thousands of fans. It is a show that will forever be a great memory for me. The second time I saw them was in someones back yard, with back yard wrestling and motor cross! But, that is a whole other post!
Even though Dog Fashion Disco is now defunct, I still listen to them constantly. I think they were way ahead of their time. They were from Baltimore, Maryland and played their final show on January 13th in 2007. I urge anyone of Zombie Popcorn’s readers to check out their discography, you’ll find their music is very entertaining and enjoyable.Their cover of Frankie Valli’s “Grease” is Amazing!
2000 – The Embryo’s in Bloom
2001 – Anarchists of Good Taste
2003 – Committed to a Bright Future
2004 – Day of the Dead EP
2006 – Adultery

“I want to hold you close, soft breath, beating heart, as I whisper in your ear, I want to fucking tear you apart.”
Justin Warfield sings in his baritone vocal style and leaves you wondering “does he want this person sexually, or does he literally want to tear her apart?” This is one example of the world Watkins and guitarist/keyboardist Adam 12 create in their music that draws you in like a stalker to a victim.
Releasing their self titled debut in early 2006, She Wants Revenge have crafted a pretty unique style blending goth rock with electronic beats and eerie piano melodies. They have been compared to the likes of bands such as Joy Division, Bauhaus, and Interpol, mostly because of Watkins baritone vocals. The thing that draws me to them as a fan is the way they put the listener in the same world they are living in and you follow Warfield on his journey, weather it is wanting a girl so badly that he will tear her apart once he gets his hands on her, or singing about a girls who has been through a terrible ordeal, and tries to get on with her life (She Will Always Be a Broken Girl, from 2007′s This is Forever).
Another great element about She Wants Revenge is how they bring their songs to life with videos. Reminiscent of David Lynch or Stanley Kubrick their videos are typically very dark, suspenseful, and often leave you wondering “What the hell was that about?” which is something i love in film and story-telling is when it doesn’t leave you peacefully and makes you think.
I believe that She Wants Revenge bring something fresh to the table and will be around for a long time. Although under the radar, they have had songs in many movies and TV shows, and don’t get the credit they deserve as being a great band with great songs. Please check out their videos and albums.
Q: What does Davey Havok from AFI, Bill Mosely from The Devil’s Rejects, Justin Pierre of Motion City Soundtrack, Anna Muckcracker and Matt Pizzolo have in common?
What is Godkiller? – It is a series of graphic novels and illustrated films created by award-winning filmmaker Matt Pizzolo that tells the stories of human beings caught in the crossfire of warring fallen gods.
A quote from Godkiller’s website;
The ‘illustrated film’ Pizzolo is creating for the adaption mixes elements of anime, radio drama, video games, and motion comics. Utilizing the original artwork from the comic book, the ‘illustrated film’ adds motion animation, visual effects, elaborate sound design, music, and voice-acting performances. Halo-8 intends to release limited-edition, serialized, short-form DVDs through the Spring and Summer before releasing the full-length feature theatrically in Fall 2009.
I could go on and on how amazing Godkiller will be but it will be easier to show you in the form of videos. Who likes reading anyway?
Some people think that Rock n Roll and horror films go hand and hand but sometimes I think people take that thought a little too far.
Here is my Top 6 List of Rock n Roll Horror films that went too far.
Rock n Roll Frankenstein

When Kate arrives at Nick’s home, Kate and Nick see something that they never thought was supposed to be part of the broadcast Craven kills the pilot and takes the airplane hostage.
Hard Rock Zombies

After Nazi sex perverts kill the band to satisfy their lusts, Cassie calls the rockers back from the grave to save her, the town, and maybe the world.
Trick or Treat staring Gene Simmons and Ozzy Osbourne.

Overwhelmed by Nuke’s generosity, Eddie accepts the gift without hesitation, unaware of it’s dark role in things to come.

I can’t help but be excited! – All the 3D movies that are coming out – I am just jumping up and down with joy! All my favorite movies when I was a child are now coming out in 3D. My Bloody Valentine was re-made in 3D, Dawn of the Dead is going to be re-released in 3D, and so many more.
There is one movie that I loved to watch that wasn’t a horror movie, I still watch it about twice a year – that movie is TRON.
Coming in 2010, TRON 2 or TR2N will be released and it will be in 3D. There is a ‘bootleg’ trailer floating around youtube and the net -but the quality is not that good so I will wait for a better trailer before I post one to this site. I can say that TR2N looks awesome!
There is not much out about the film yet, but what we do know is that Daft Punk is going to write the soundtrack and Bruce Boxleitner along with Jeff Bridges are returning to TRON. Bridges will be playing the role of Kevin Flynn.
Ok, so I lied – here is the bootleg teaser for TR2N
The last couple of months I have teamed up with a friend to add vocals to the music he has written and edit videos for the songs. We wanted to create a song that reflected our love for horror, B-movies and cult classics. I think we pulled it off pretty well, it is in the final stages of editing. So, we started to work on the video aspect of it and it has been so much fun to create this video.
The other day we began filming a very dark segment of the video that involved fog machines. Before I go on, let me say – I have used my fog machines 100 times and never had a problem. Anyway, we set up the shot and began filming – everything was going great. Until my friend decided to go outside…
As he walked down the stairs a very loud alarm penetrated the air. It was the fire alarm. It wouldn’t have been such a problem but I live in an apartment building. Long story short, after everyone came back inside from evacuating the apartment complex and the fire trucks drove away – I realized we got some really awesome footage for the video.
Here is a sneak peak / screen grab from the video edit….
You may remember a while back I posted the first photos to Rob Zombie’s upcoming film, Halloween 2.
When the first photos were released, I was and still am, excited about the possible gore fest Rob Zombie is going to create for us in his new film. With all the excitement and anticipation to see the film, nothing could have prepared me for this…..
Rob Zombie casts Weird Al Yankovic! Here is a quote from Rob’s Myspace page;
“Weird Al rolls into Haddonfield as well Weird Al a guest of THE NEWMAN HOUR – a local talk show. The other guest that night is Dr. Loomis hawking his new book THE DEVIL WALKS AMONG US… let’s just say things get weird.”
What a crazy couple of days. As you know, if you have been reading lately - I lost my laptop, well it died. (If you have any need for a Sony VAIO VGN-AR230, let me know.) I thought I was lucky because I only lost a couple of photos and a video project that I was working on – no big deal right? Wrong. My new computer came in yesterday, I love it and after installing all my programs and tweaking it, I decided to hook up my 2 tb hard drive – where I back up all my photos, videos, music, everything – only to find out that the hard drive is not working. So, all my photos and videos from ALL of my tours, trips, friends, food, and whatever else is GONE!
I said to myself was, ‘Well, I needed to clean up that hard drive anyway.” I was sadden a little because I lost so much documentation of the past. Then I started thinking of all the new videos, photos and stories I will have in the future. The thought of starting over, new photos, new videos, and new adventures with a new computer sounds good to me. True, it is sad that I lost all of those material memories but I have been given the opportunity to realize what those meant to me and create something new and more meaningful than to just let them collect digital dust on a store device.
So here is my new computer and my new outlook on the digital life…..
When I was much much younger than I am today – I had 4th row, center seats, to my very first arena concert which was Iron Madien’s Seventh Son of the Seventh Son Tour in 1988. I was a huge Iron Madien fan at the age of 13.
The years have gone by and I don’t listen to Iron Madien as much as I did back then in fact, I can’t remember when the last time I listen to them. So, it was no suprise to me to see that Iron Madien’s front man, Bruce Dickinson co-wrote a film with director Julian Doyle, who directed Maiden’s 1988 video “Can I Play With Madness?” (side note: Julian Doyle also edited Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life, Life of Brian and Time Bandits.)
The film that Bruce and Julian created is entitled, Crowley. (Also known as, Chemical Madness in other parts of the world.) Here is a blurb.
He was known as ” The Wickedest Man in the World” or simply ‘The Beast’. More than 60 years after his death, the demonic life and works of British occultist Aleister Crowley has continued to capture our darkest imaginations. In this provocative supernatural thriller co -written by legendary Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson, a virtual reality experiment gone wrong sends the soul of the infamous madman into the body of a shy university professor. But even as Crowly creates all – new orgies of depraved pleasures and black magic, is he now preparing to unleash the ultimate occult event upon the world?
As you know, if you read the post ‘Paraskavedekatriaphobia‘ - Myle T and I spent the Friday 13th and Valentine’s Day in the mountains. We had a great time and if you ever been to the Blue Ridge Mountains you know you can experience some of the strangest things in this world.
So, here is a short video of one of the interviews we did while in the mountains — enjoy……
It is a very rare moment that I am this excited about a movie that is not in 3D.
When you combine Alexa Vega, Ogre (Skinny Puppy), Paris Hilton, Joan Jett, and Sarah Brightman in a movie and include Daniel Ash and David J (Bauhaus/Love & Rockets) in the soundtrack shared with Richard Patrick (Filter), Steven Perkins (Jane’s Addiction), Clown (Slipknot), Ray Luzier (Army of Anyone), Brian Young (David Lee Roth’s band), Richard Fortus (Guns & Roses), Sonny Moore (First to Last), Blasko (Ozzy Osborne), Tommy Clefetus (Rob Zombie’s band), Melora Creager (Rasputina). Also lending her voice to the soundtrack is the edgy pop star Poe. Japanese musician and composer Yoshiki Haysahi (of the legendary rock band X-Japan) co-produced the music with Joe Bishara.
In the year 2056 – the not so distant future – an epidemic of organ failures devastates the planet. Out of the tragedy, a savior emerges: GeneCo, a biotech company that offers organ transplants… for a price. Those who miss their payments are scheduled for repossession and hunted by villainous Repo Men. In a world where surgery addicts are hooked on painkilling drugs and murder is sanctioned by law, a sheltered young girl searches for the cure to her own rare disease as well as information about her family’s mysterious history. After being sucked into the haunting world of GeneCo, she is unable to turn back, as all of her questions will be answered at the wildly anticipated spectacular event: The Genetic Opera.
You can pick up a copy of the soundtrack and the movie here;
Just a quick post – I have updated and added several new videos to Zombie Popcorn’s YouTube Channel. I will be adding more over the next couple of weeks.
Every morning when I wake up, I always have a song in my head, its like my own personal clock radio alarm. This morning was a little different because it was the first time I had two songs playing in my head at once – maybe one song was for me and the other song was for Mylie. The songs that alternated in my head were Creedence Clearwater Revival’s ‘Who’ll Stop the Rain’ and Johnny Nash’s ‘I Can See Clearly Now.’ The songs were not the full score like usual, it started with the line from CCR, ‘And I wonder, still I wonder, who’ll stop the rain’ then switch to Johnny Nash’s ‘It’s gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright) Sun-Shiny day.’
So, at 7:00 AM, I am sitting here looking out the window thinking of the things I packed and trying to remember if I forgotten anything. The thought of a seven hour fight makes me wonder what I should bring to keep me from losing my mind sitting in one spot for so long. Sure, I drove across country 1000 times and done my share of 16 hours non-stop drives, only stopping to get gas and for restroom breaks. So, a seven hour fight should not be that bad right? To make sure I dont ‘go crazy’ during the fight, I loaded my Archos AV 700 up with over 14,000 songs and added four movies to the Archos. The movies are, in case you are wondering, ‘An American Werewolf in London’, ‘Pale Rider’, ’28 Weeks Later’ and ‘Witchfinder General’. Yes, I have a duplex headphone adapter so Mylie can watch movies with me. In fact, she saw me writing this blog post and said, “You need to add ‘The Nightmare before Christmas’ to the Archos movie list.” – It has been added.
We still have a lot to do before catching our flight and the day just got a little better, in the mail was my free Dr. Pepper coupon – next stop Edinburgh!!
The other day I notice that the band Pigface is releasing a new album. I was excited because I am a fan of Pigface.
For those who don’t know who Pigface is, here is a brief history run down.
Pigface is an industrial rock super group formed in 1990 by Martin Atkins and William Rieflin.
Pigface was formed from Ministry’s The Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste tour, which produced the In Case You Didn’t Feel Like Showing Up live album and video. For the tour, Al Jourgensen brought Atkins, Nivek Ogre and Chris Connelly. Also on the tour was Rieflin, regular Ministry drummer at the time. While Atkins enjoyed the dynamic of playing with a second drummer, he felt that the lineup was capable of doing much more than being, what he has frequently called, “a Ministry cover band.” Once the tour was over, Atkins and Rieflin decided to continue working together and recruited several of their tourmates from the The Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste tour. Pigface was born with the intention of keeping a revolving-door style collaboration with many experimentally-minded musicians, many of whom, especially early on, had recorded for the influential industrial music record label Wax Trax!.
Trent Reznor was also an early partner, before Nine Inch Nails became a household name. “Suck,” co-written and sung by Reznor, was something of an underground hit, and Reznor later re-recorded the song for the Broken EP.
Rieflin eventually left Pigface, leaving Atkins in charge. The hundreds of musical collaborators to record and perform with Pigface have ensured that each album, and each song, is unique. However, this practice has led to some negative criticism due to a perceived lack of continuity.
Pigface concerts are characterized by high-energy performances. Frequently there will be upwards of 10 musicians on stage at any time during the show. In addition, members of the audience are occasionally invited on stage for the encore. —- blurb taken from Wikipedia – to see the extensive line up of Pigface – you can check out the Wikipedia page.
Ok, history lesson is over. As I was saying, I was excited to hear Martin was releasing a new album but was very shocked to hear that Pigface was releasing a very limited signed copy of 100 8-track tapes of their new album.
Yes! 8-track, you remember 8-track tapes… well, some of you may not remember.
I think this is a fun gimmick but with one minor problem – WHO STILL OWNS AN 8-TRACK PLAYER? You can not even pick them up at pawn shops.
The good news is Martin Atkins will be hosting live online listening parties on Friday, Sunday, and Monday to play a handful of new Pigface tunes and some other assorted tracks, and will be online to chat and answer questions on the Invisible Community Site.
Nightmares in Red, White and Blue: The Evolution of the American Horror Film is a feature-length documentary based on the book of the same name by Joseph Maddrey. It examines the idea that horror films reflect the times and places in which they are made – illustrating how classic monster movies exploited the anxieties of war-time generations, and how more savage modern horror films stem from the psychic fallout of America’s counterculture movement and the subsequent rise of increasingly conservative political forces.
At the same time, the documentary explores the timeless, universal appeal of horror movies by examining the pervasive theme of The Outsider. From the silent films of Lon Chaney to the box office reign of Hannibal Lector and his peers, the history of the horror film is a story of the individual at odds with any organization that threatens his life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. In-depth interviews with many of the nation’s greatest horror filmmakers reveal that the appeal of the genre is rooted not only in timely fears but in the spirit of rebellion – a spirit that consistently defines American life, as well as many of its best horror filmmakers.
Nightmares in Red, White and Blue is narrated by horror genre icon Lance Henriksen, and features exclusive interviews with legendary auteurs like John Carpenter, George A. Romero, Joe Dante, Larry Cohen, and Roger Corman, as well as film historian John Kenneth Muir and Fangoria editor Tony Timpone. Their observations are illustrated with clips from more than 100 films – ranging from the classic Universal monster movies to the psychological horrors of film noir, from groundbreaking films like “Night of the Living Dead,” “Rosemary’s Baby,” The Exorcist” and “Jaws” to contemporary slasher movies, Torture Porn, and beyond. In short, it is the most comprehensive documentary on America’s most durable and prolific film genre.
If you can’t wait for the movie to come out you can get the book here;
It has been a busy couple of days. I have started to put together the beginnings of a book that I want to write. Nothing too fancy but I think most people will find this book very uncharacteristic of me. – I will fill you in on the details once I get this book project underway a little more.
I also started filming a small documentary with my friend Paul. He works on the soundtracks for films and videos. In fact, he just finished writing the soundtrack to a new documentary about the history of horror films. Once that is released to the public I will let you know so you can pick up a copy of the film.
The short film we are working on will be posted here before Halloween, so keep your eyes open for that.
The other items that I have been working on is this site. As you can see, if you look to your right a little, I now have random images added to the side bar. A new photo will appear every time you refresh the page or visit another post within this site. Fun – Fun! Also, if you look below those random images you will find a new archive system, this should make it easier for you to find anything you are looking for, as long as it is on Zombie Popcorn/ Psychosomatic Rants
Also, at the bottom of every post you will find a rating system. Well, its not really a system it is just 5 stars. Click on the stars and let me know how much you like what you just read. It is easier than leaving a comment – I mean, I still love getting your comments but I know sometimes you are in a hurry or at work and don’t want your boss to know, so you can rate it quickly and then back to work.
You have to give it to parents they sure know how to come at
you out of left field.Earlier today I
get an instant message from my mom.You
know the typical ‘How are you?’, ‘We miss you’ type of message.
Then out of nowhere she said, Have you hear the song, ‘Lollipop’
by Lil Wayne? Then she went on to say how that is currently her favorite song
and she has been listening to it a lot.
I think it is great to hear my Texan mom breaking out and
listening to a larger variety of music. It was the following comment she said
that caught me totally off guard. She
said, ‘I wish I had some N.W.A., do you have any songs that you could send me?’
She wanted it- seriously I had to do the screen grab to
prove it- check it out for yourself.
I am very happy that my mom is listening to more music so
this post is for you mom. – Straight outta Weatherford!
Remember when social community was more than Facebook and Myspace?
Ok here is my old man, rant.
I remember when I was younger, when I asked, ‘What are we doing for the community today?’ The answer was something on the lines of we are going to hold workshops on the importance of civil disobedience, or we are going to attend (insert whatever group here) to learn what they are about and see if we can combine efforts to expand the local community. Now when you ask that question, the answer you may get is, ‘I posted a new photo on my profile or ‘I took a photo with a sign that I downloaded from some company with a meaningless slogan and posted it online to help brand that company.’
As the years have gone by, I have seen a major move away from communities. I see less and less organizing in the streets such as clothing drives, food drives for lower income families, communities holding local business accountable for their environmental impact and wage offerings, etc. I also see less and less cross issues organizing, but I have seen more and more back biting within circles that should have been working together.I have seen too many good people get beaten down by their bosses, by their co-workers, when all they wanted was to make a difference. It seems like ‘profits before people’ have taken a hold of mainstream thinking.
What went wrong? Where did we lose our unity, our harmony, our solidarity?
It is very important for each one of us to take the time to understand what is going on in the world. It is important to know why individuals take time to work on change -no matter what that change is and no matter how much we agree or disagree with them. (There is a reason why they are protesting) Then we must take it one-step further from understanding, we must take action on how we, as a community, can improve these actions to achieve the bigger picture goal.
I am starting a series of Psychosomatic Rants posts that will introduce you to other groups and individuals who or have in the past, worked to improve their community. I will also talk about the things that I have started or collaborated with others to help improve my local community.
To start this series off, I want to share with you three documentaries from three different ‘social’ groups all striving to achieve a common goal. – A better world, a better community. Their methods are all different, their lives are different, but what is important is that their goals are all the same. I hope this inspires you, as it has me, to get more active in your local community.
The first video is entitled, ‘Beyond The Screams/ Mas Alla de Los Gritos: A U.S. Latino Hardcore Punk Documentary’ Martin Sorrondeguy, former vocalist for Los Crudos, is the producer of this powerful and uplifting documentary about the U.S. Latino punk scene and the DIY movement.
The Second video is ‘McLibel’.
McLibel is the story of two ordinary people who humiliated McDonald’s in the biggest corporate PR disaster in history. McDonald’s loved using the UK libel laws to suppress criticism. Major media organisations like the BBC and The Guardian crumbled and apologised. But then they sued gardener Helen Steel and postman Dave Morris. In the longest trial in English legal history, the “McLibel Two” represented themselves against McDonald’s 10 million legal team. Every aspect of the corporation’s business was cross-examined: from junk food and McJobs, to animal cruelty, environmental damage and advertising to children. Outside the courtroom, Dave brought up his young son alone and Helen supported herself working nights in a bar. McDonald’s tried every trick in the book against them. Legal manoeuvres. A visit from Ronald McDonald. Top executives flying to London for secret settlement negotiations. Even spies. Seven years later, in February 2005, the marathon legal battle finally concluded at the European Court of Human Rights. And the result took everyone by surprise – especially the British Government. McLibel is not just about hamburgers. It is about the importance of freedom of speech now that multinational corporations are more powerful than countries. Filmed over ten years by no-budget Director Franny Armstrong, McLibel is the David and Goliath story of two people who refused to say sorry. And in doing so, changed the world.

The third film is called, ‘There is No Authority But Yourself.’
There is No Authority But Yourself is a Dutch film directed by Alexander Oey documenting the history of anarchist punk band Crass. The anarchist punk band Crass was very different from their contemporaries. The Sex Pistols and The Clash sold their souls to big record labels, whereas Crass stayed true to their anti-corporate ideals. Crass still exists today as a commune just outside of London named ‘Dial House’- a safe haven for those individuals of principle who still live by the old punk slogan ‘Do it yourself’

So, I am happy to say that I can share Bjork’s Wanderlust 3d video with you. Enjoy!
Also, if you want to buy the CD that has the 3d video you can grab it here.
This super rare deluxe packaging includes two twelve inch vinyl singles, one CD single and a NTSC/Region 0 DVD featuring the 3D ‘Wanderlust’ video.
Yes, I am starting this with a bad joke but there is a reason I started this way.Just like how this joke is bad it still makes you laugh, at least a little. There are statements/question people say to me that I find funny – in the same way this joke is funny and at the same time I think, ‘Wow, I cant believe someone just said this to me’
Let me give you some background before I tell you what the question is that I get from people.
I have always been into horror movies and things that are related to being scared. I love haunted houses, both Halloween style and real places that claim to be haunted – example, the Amityville house in NY. (Yes, the house the movie is based on)I can remember as a child there was nothing more exciting than being scared. Either during Halloween or when you are in your bed late at night and you have the feeling something is in your room with you and you are too afraid to get up and turn on the light to see who or what is under your bed or in your closet.
One of my favorite memories that I can remember from when I was in the fourth grade was the first time I got to stay up late and watch a horror movie – ALONE!Back in my day, 7-11 (the convenience store) would team up with Channel 21 and have a horror movie event every other month. They would do things like Smell-o-Vision, yes, I said Smell -o- Vision. You would go into 7-11 buy a Slurpee or a Big Gulp and they would give you a big card that was a scratch and sniff – it would have pictures of items like a gas can, dirty socks, etc.On a late weekend night on Channel 21, they would play a Horror movie and anytime you saw the items on TV, you would scratch the card and smell the item to give you the feeling of being there.Luckily, my first experience with the channel 21/7-11 horror movie night the promotion was a 3-D movie. It worked the same way – buy a big gulp – get the 3-D glasses -wait for the weekend and watch the movie.
I was so excited – I have never seen a 3-D movie before and it was the first time I got to stay up late and watch a horror movie alone. You know how kids are – this was one of the coolest things ever! When I was younger, it was not common for families to have a TV in every room.We only had a TV in the living room and in my parents’ room. My dad knew how excited I was so he moved the TV from the living room into my bedroom. This made me even more excited – if that was even possible – not only did I get to stay up late and watch my first 3-D horror movie but also I got to watch it in my room.So as my dad was finishing setting up the TV I turned on the TV to channel 21 and there was a preview of tonight’s 3-D movie and the horror movie gods must have been on my side tonight because they announced it was going to be a double feature 3-D horror movie nite!I was jumping up and down with complete excitement.I grabbed my 3-D glasses, my bowl of popcorn and got in my bed.My dad finished doing whatever it was he was doing to the TV and said, “Goodnight and enjoy your movies.”As he walked out, he turned off the lights. So I was there, all alone, in the dark. The only thing that could be seen is the glow coming from the TV.At midnight the horror movie program started. The first movie was ‘The Mask’ and the second film was the original ‘House of Wax’ with Vincent Price (Amazon link at the bottom of this page)
The movie started – I was sitting in the dark, wearing my 3-D glasses. I wasn’t scared at all. I think it was because all my excitement and it did not give me time to think about what was just set up for me. A little boy all alone in a dark room withHis parents up stairs, asleep – looking back at it now that is totally a perfect setting for a horror movie. As the movie’s plot began to build, my excitement was beginning to lessen and I was drawn into the storyline and the 3D effects. Then it hit me – I remember it like it was yesterday.About halfway into the film there was this very ‘cultish’ scene where these hooded figures, all in black, was getting ready to sacrifice a young woman – the figures were in this very foggy place and the only thing visible was the two figures, a woman laying on this platform and two torches at each end of the platform. The camera began to zoom closer to the woman, very slowly, and as the woman got closer, her body – her flesh – her skin, began to fade way and all there was left was a skeleton. In perfect 3-D perfection, the camera zoomed fast towards the skull as a demonic snake jumped out of the eye socket and out of my TV screen – I do not think I really watched the rest of the movie in 3-D because my hands were over my eyes for most of it.It totally scared the hell out of me. (Needless to say, but I am saying it anyway – this started my obsession with 3D movies and I now have over 100 3D movies in my collection)
It is moments like that seem to shape our likes and dislikes; I was totally hooked on horror items – not your typical horror movies but gimmick style movies.
This love for gimmick horror is not just limited to movies,
- It is reflected in some of my music – bands like, My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult (TKK), I think they capture this horror gimmick perfect in their music and their music is totally sexy sometimes.Another group is the Electric Hellfire Club, which has a member of TKK.
- It is reflected in my ‘art’ – here are some holiday cards I made –
And videos that I made for my girlfriend for Valentine’s Day – ‘- Don’t worry, she is into horror so it fits – the song is done by Rob Zombie – she loves Rob Zombie – (so just push play)
Ok, you maybe asking yourself by now – ‘How does that lame joke and the statements that you have heard from people fit into all of this?’
As you may or may not know – I am vegan. Therefore, when people find out that I am vegan I get all kinds of questions. I love when people ask me questions because I really enjoy meeting people and finding out about them and their stories. I would never look down on anyone no matter how silly I find his or her question to be, that is not what I do.So the one question I get from people once they find out I am into horror movies/culture, etc is – “If you are vegan how can you be into horror movies. I thought you were against killing.”I find this statement funny in the same way that I find the gimmick horror culture funny because its so over the top.I try to answer this question with humor and try to address the seriousness of the question at the same time- that can be very difficult.
Its entertainment a release from everyday horrors – I think vegetarian horror film director/writer, Larry Fessenden said it best, “I make horror movies because I have an acute awareness of the horrors of life. There is no more explicit an example of everyday horrors than in people’s treatment of animals, in the labs, the slaughterhouses.”(Check out Larry films – Habit and Wendigo)
– two other vegan/vegetarian horror movie directors – Dario Argento, and Rob Zombie (I could list a long list but I wont)
All this talk about horror movies – I am going to watch one now.
