I hope you enjoyed the movies from the Official Memorial day weekend movie-a-day marathon and your Memorial Day weekend.
Mylie and I had a wonderfully relaxing weekend. We made our way to the swamp and went camping. Just like all camping trips we went to the local market to stock up on snacks and other camping goodies. We made our way to North Carolina and we went up the local Piggly Wiggly. As we walked up and down the aisles looking for the perfect snack food, I saw in the distance a can of green beans.
It seemed like a typical, innocent can of green beans until you looked closer. I was shocked that they allowed these green beans to be sold in public. The filth, the sin the action of these green beans were doing – those of heathens – HEATHENS, I SAY! I have never seen a green bean slap the ass of another… So, I pulled out my cell phone and took a photo…
After being in shock, I needed to be around good and wholesome green beans – I made my way to the produce section. I started to feel better being around the clean and pure produce and decided to go pick up some grapes for our camping trip. As I approached the grapes the sky turned black and the world as I knew it turned into an strange parallel universe.
I was born and raised in Texas and I have made my share of chili – In fact, I LOVE Frito pie. So when I saw the tag on the grapes read, “Product of Chili” – I became really confused – has my Texas up-bringing closed my eyes to this way world? - Is this something new, something that them young crazy kids are into? WHY CANT IT BE LIKE IT WAS WHEN I WAS YOUNGER, BACK IN THE DAY WHEN GRAPES CAME FROM CHILE?! (click on the photo to enlarge)
After sitting in the corner crying for an hour, Mylie dragged me out of the store and we continued our way to the swamp.
We arrived at the swamp and grabbed our canoe and paddled our way out the the ‘island’ where we normally camp. As soon as we got in the water a light rain began falling. It was really nice because it cooled down the temperature and all the frogs came out to serenade us as we made our journey.
Once we arrived at our spot we popped up the tent and started the fire so Mylie could work her cooking camping magic. She chopped all the delicious ingredients and we added it to the fire.
While we waited for the food to cook we decided to walk down to the water to kick up our feet and watch the wildlife. As soon, as we got near the waters edge, Mylie noticed a snake in our path. It turned out to be a Red Belly water snake, which is non-venomous, but we didn’t know that at the time. So we respected his/her space and put some distance between us.
After seeing the snake we also saw several turtles and frogs and a family of Nutria.
We headed back to eat our dinner and it was amazing and as we sat under the trees listening to the sounds of nature engulf us, I realized that there was no where else I would want to be or with anyone else. Everything I every wanted was right there with me at that moment. Mylie and I burned the rest of the daylight talking and looking out over the swamp and as the sun began to set we found our comfort in our tent. The songs of frogs sang us to sleep.
The next morning, I woke up and poked my head outside of the tent only to find we had two visitors. I quickly woke Mylie up and said, ‘You have to see this!’ I reached for my camera and this image is what we started our new day with — could life be any better?
