Happy World Zombie Day!

Posted on 26 October 2008 by

Yes, today is World Zombie Day and what a wonderful day it has been so far. I have several zombie themed plans for the day – but I will tell you about them later.

So, to pay tribute to Zombies today I am introducing a new zombie film that you must download or buy the Dvd because you will never see another zombie massacre like this ever again. The Film is called, ‘Zombe Western: It Came From The West

What makes this film different from ALL the other zombie films is that the cast of this film are puppets.

Check out the trailer…

The ride to Hell — in 3D!

Posted on 25 October 2008 by

Another great trailer and poster was released this past week, My Bloody Valentine 3D.

This movie was one of my favorite horror films when I was a child (insert your jokes here, ‘but Jason you still act like a child’, etc). This movie totally changed the way I looked at a pickaxe.

You know how much I LOVE 3D movies, so, combining this film and 3D is the only logical next step you could do.

The original My Bloody Valentine movie had 9 minutes cut by the MPAA due to gore, I hope the new directors of the 3D remake keep true to the original gore of this film.

I guess we will find out in January.

Check out the trailer below and let me know what you think.

This film was released in 1968 but I think the idea behind this film holds a little truth today. Plus, this film stars Vincent Price- so you know it is good.

Here is the plot:
England is torn in civil strife as the Royalists battle the Parliamentary Party for control. This conflict distracts people from rational thought and allows unscrupulous men to gain local power by exploiting village superstitions. One of these men is Matthew Hopkins, who tours the land offering his services as a persecutor of witches. Aided by his sadistic accomplice John Stearne, he travels from city to city and wrenches confessions from “witches” in order to line his pockets and gain sexual favors. When Hopkins persecutes a priest, he incurs the wrath of Richard Marshall, who is engaged to the priest’s niece. Risking treason by leaving his military duties, Marshall relentlessly pursues the evil Hopkins and his minion Stearne.

Omen Pentology DVD

Omen Pentology DVD

I have mentioned before that October is my favorite month. The weather is perfect, the air is cool and crisp in the mornings. Fall decorations start popping up everywhere. Not to mention, all the wonderful Halloween items that can be found that I stock up on every year.

It is the type of season where you cook up a pot of hot coco grab a blanket and your loved one and sit down to watch all the scary movies you can find. So I would like to share with you the movie that I always start my October watching. It hit the theaters in 1976 and changed the way people viewed the devil and children. The movie is ‘The Omen’

For those who have never seen it, please take a moment to watch this trailer.

Ok, so the trailer is a little dramatic but the film is a good watch.

You can now get The Omen on blu-ray and The 4 disc Omen Collection on SD-DVD. If you can watch region 2 DVDs I would recommend getting the ‘The Omen Pentology’ a 6 disc collection of all the Omen films.

Happy October

Days of War, Nights of Love

Posted on 13 October 2008 by

It has been a busy couple of days.  I have started to put together the beginnings of a book that I want to write.  Nothing too fancy but I think most people will find this book very uncharacteristic of me. – I will fill you in on the details once I get this book project underway a little more.

I also started filming a small documentary with my friend Paul. He works on the soundtracks for films and videos. In fact, he just finished writing the soundtrack to a new documentary about the history of horror films.  Once that is released to the public I will let you know so you can pick up a copy of the film.

The short film we are working on will be posted here before Halloween, so keep your eyes open for that.

The other items that I have been working on is this site.  As you can see, if you look to your right a little,  I now have random images added to the side bar.  A new photo will appear every time you refresh the page or visit another post within this site.  Fun – Fun!  :) Also, if you look below those random images you will find a new archive system, this should make it easier for you to find anything you are looking for, as long as it is on Zombie Popcorn/ Psychosomatic Rants

Also, at the bottom of every post you will find a rating system. Well, its not really a system it is just 5 stars.  Click on the stars and let me know how much you like what you just read.  It is easier than leaving a comment – I mean, I still love getting your comments but I know sometimes you are in a hurry or at work and don’t want your boss to know, so you can rate it quickly and then back to work.

You can test it out by rating this post now…

Top 10 Death Row Last Meal Requests from Texas.

Posted on 09 October 2008 by

As you know, or maybe you don’t know, I am from Texas. There are things that are only understood by Texans and these things are held to be equal to the word of God.  For example, Dr. Pepper – Texans have some kind of addiction to Dr. Pepper and chicken fried steak with cream gravy and I am also a victim to these addictions. Yes, I know, I am vegan, so to stay true to my Texas ways I have created a vegan version of chicken fried steak and cream gravy – but that is a completely different post.

The purpose of this post is the top 10 Last meal request for people who were sitting on Texas death row list. Dr. Pepper to the end, seriously…

10. Double meat cheeseburgers, double order of french fries, Dr. Pepper and a pint of banana nut ice cream – Johnny James

4. 12 pieces of chicken (thighs and drumsticks), 2 double-meat cheeseburgers on toasted buns, 1 large place of brown french fries with ketchup, 2 large onions (cut in slices), 2 large tomatoes (cut in slices), 6 sweet pickles, salad dressing, 5 sliced jalapeno peppers, peach cobbler with extra crust, and milk. – Vincent Cooks

A Death of a Family Member…Sort of…

Posted on 05 October 2008 by

A part of our lives will be ripped away from us on Feb. 17, 2009. The one thing that symbolizes frustration, youth, enjoyment, happiness, sadness, and creativity will be denied to the future generation. Making this date, Feb. 17, 2009, the moment the people my age can officially have an old person story. You know, the old person story, like the one your grandparents told you about how they could buy a hamburger, fries and a coke for ten cents or how they told you the story about the only ‘TV’ they watched came from a radio.

Anyway, Feb. 17, 2009 is the death of the RABBIT EARS! For years, people have used these to bring happiness into their lives. Rabbit ears have forced people to create the most interesting positions to get the perfect picture on the TV for your romantic evening. (On the other hand, maybe killing the romance because you spent the last 3 hours trying to pick up a channel.) The one staple brought Americans together in the living room. No reason to buy the latest Milton Bradley game when families sat for hours watching dad yell and scream at the TV as he rotated, turned, extended, shortened, hung up, put on the floor, turned upside down, and performing the most unimaginable things with the rabbit ears just so you could watch your favorite 30 minute TV show.

Now on Feb. 18, 2009 you can walk up to kids in the mall, on the sidewalk, and even at school and look them straight in the eye and say, “When I was your age we had to put a metal box called Rabbit Ears on top of the TV just so we could watch local TV channels. Times were hard back then.

On Feb. 17, 2009, I hope everyone raises a glass to a good friend who is passing on to the great history books in the sky. —- You will be missed, Rabbit Ears… :(

Zombie Popcorn

“When there’s no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth!” From White Zombie to Dawn of the Dead, Resident Evil to World War Z, zombies have invaded popular culture, becoming the monsters that best express the fears and anxieties of the modern west. Gathering together the best zombie literature of the last three decades from many of today’s most renowned authors of fantasy, speculative fiction, and horror, including Stephen King, Harlan Ellison, Robert Silverberg, George R. R. Martin, Clive Barker, Poppy Z. Brite, Neil Gaiman, Joe Hill, Laurell K. Hamilton, and Joe R. Lansdale, The Living Dead covers the broad spectrum of zombie fiction.

If you are looking for a good zombie read, The Living Dead is an awesome book to pick up.  With so many great horror writers (Stephen King and Clive Barker, etc) you can’t go wrong with this book – so pick it up now and tell me what you think.
